Do your chain hang low

1) When my mother put me through the domestication process, one of the things she taught me was how to sew. (I also did the whole 4-H/County Fair Exhibit thing too, those blue ribbons are collecting dust somewhere.) Thing is, as an adult, I hate sewing. Well, hate’s pretty strong…I don’t WANT to sew. It takes too much time. I always sew over my fingers. Plus I can find it easier on sale at Target or Kohls or wherever my butt finds clothes. Thing is, I still go into fabric stores for crafty stuff, and whilst in there last week, I stumbled across this GORGEOUS silk fabric, Asian green with sweet little butterflies on it, I did a literal !GASP! when I saw it, like, I had to buy it or bad karma would find me. But it’s $15 a yard, and I’m not about to drop that kinda money on material that I’ll probably never use. Although I’m considering taking my old sewing machine in for a tune-up as an excuse to get the material. I’ll be going to the fabric store again today to touch it and make myself miserable.

2) So I put on my new “progressive lenses” (aka, bifocals) last Friday and nearly puked. Seasick. Blurry here but not there…whoops!...now blurry there…. I had to learn to walk all over again. Stairs suck. It’s getting better. I look like a sexy librarian.

3) I’m losing track of sleep, like, I went to bed around 12:30 a.m. this morning, Girl-child woke up at, what, 2 a.m.?...something like that…with a mysterious pain in her leg (thank you Children’s Motrin), and I stumbled back to bed a bit later. The alarm went off at 5 a.m. I’m gonna have Sergei conk me on the head every night about 9 p.m. so I can get some quality ‘out’ time.

4) Is anyone except me anxious to check out “Studio 60” tonight? I have a mad crush on Bradley Whitford, and hey, Mr. Perry ain’t so shabby….

5) Tofu. I will be experimenting with tofu. Damn you, Iron Chef America!

OMG, I love Iron Chef America! Gets me all excited about cooking. I missed this one, dammit.

Hadn't heard of Studio 60 before, I'm so out of TV loops. Now I'm gonna check it out tonight.

If Iron Chef America makes you want to experiment with tofu, then Project Runway would *totally* make you want to sew.

SO many things to comment on, so little time:

1) Isn't tht what Mom's are supposed to do? Yes, the knowledge of the 60's is not as applicable today, but hey, think how your kids would appreciate you beign able to do something the other moms do not know how to do. ("Wow, your Mom made that?!?")

2)I HATED progressives. My neck started bothering me from trying to find an angle where I could look at a specific thing, lik emy computer monitor.

3) I think a good bang on the head by your significant other would help everyone in the household. :-)

4) Yes, I am planning to watch the show. I really miss "West Wing". It was one of the smartest shows on TV, so I am hoping this one will be a good hybrid.

5) Mmmmm...Tofu. I like to use spicy seasons, then lightly fry it and then throw it into a salad or stir-fry.

Have a good week.

Hm. My glasses make me cross-eyed. Then I lose them.

Maybe have him hit you over the head with a cast iron pan, it'll help with any anemia-!

Now *I* want the fabric. Maybe just make something easy, like a scarf or a gorgeous wrap for my pretty? Or lining for her bra cups? ;)

I love walking through fabric stores -- touching the fabrics, staring at the colours. I have a friend who is a quilt artist and her studio is the most amazing beatiful place, with all kinds of gorgeous fabrics piled everywhere.

But I am way too lazy to sew anything myself.

Let's see, I play several instruments, make soap, knit, make other smelly things like incense, lotions, perfume oils, blend scents, and other fun stuff. But I cannot sew a straight line to save my soul.

karmic: The hubby got the downstairs tv, I got the upstairs one. We are nothing if not spoiled. (Fabric Porn...ohbabyyes!)

maggie: I have a huge crush on Morimoto...ooooohhhhhh....

stroll: Yah, I get the 'urge' but it passes quickly once I think about what's involved. Even though he's kinda crude, I'm liking Jeffrey's designs. The neck tat, though, throws me off.

mr. don: So whaddya think about Studio 60? I know I'm going back....

pisser: See, that's why you need to move to the midwest, so you can go with me to the fabric store and suggest things my teenytinybrain can't...scarf it is! (and the leftovers for bra cups....)

jo(e): I'm very tactile, I love to run my hands over and around and through...join me, won't you?

serra: I'm not sure that I can anymore!
